The second annual International Anthem in-store at Logan Hardware Records will be a tasty one this year — not only because we’ll be again bringing a hearty crockpot full of TIGHT FOREVER stew, but also because guitarist Jeff Parker will be in from Los Angeles to grace us with a rare hometown solo guitar set (right on the heels of his Eremite-released solo guitar LP “Slight Freedom”).
Before and after Jeff’s set, Makaya McCraven will be flexing chops on his Ableton hardware, conjuring creative electronic ambiance to bob one’s head to while one enjoys a warm bowl of stew.

We are having a huge soul party here in Logan Square at Logan Hardware Records on Saturday December 10th to celebrate the books People’s Place: Soul Food Restaurants and Reminiscences from the Civil Rights Era to Today by Dave Hoekstra on Chicago Review Press and the self-published They Danced All Night, the diary of legendary northern soul dancer Gethro Jones. Also a very important part of the celebration is the release of Larry Dixon’s LAD Productions archive on Past Due Records.
Beginning at 2pm some of Logan Hardware Records favorite DJs playing all kinds of classic soul 45s all day including the East of Edens Soul Express, Jivan Ivan, The Mighty Djan, King Tony, Eric Colon and Aret Sakalian of Windy City Soul Club (who are celebrating their 8th anniversary later that night at the Empty Bottle).
Expect to rub elbows with soul-era luminaries Ruby Andrews and the West Side’s own Legendary Godfather while enjoying live sets from Larry Dixon & Friends and Ralph ‘Soul’ Jackson and his Chicago band. Even our vintage Scopitone will be cranking out classic blues and soul footage!

Joey Garfield was one of our first customers. When we first opened, he was eager to tell about an article on underground pinball club for Grand Royal Magazine he wrote as he bought large amounts of budget 45s. Years later we found out all those 45s were going to a series of mixed media collages, some have been hanging in the store for the last few months. Juxtapose Magazine did a Beastie Boys tribute issue that literally made us cry. It was edited by a guy that worked on a couple Beastie’s videos, Joey Garfield. Joey does video professionally and this night is a celebration of some of his work. Come check out new photos, collage and videos/shorts by Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Run the Jewels, At the Drive In, The Cool Kids (with old school footage of Logan Hardware!), Sucklord, Reggie Watts and one of our favorites, a documentary on the history of NYC radio mix shows of the 80s and early 90s.

Local punk label Criminal IQ Records mogul Darius Hurley has diversified his fat portfolio to now include stand-up comedian! He’s gonna bring a short set of mirth and/or mayhem – we’ll just have to wait and see.
Editors/DJs Ray Martinez and Jim Zajackowski will be spinning records and blasting tunes at Logan Arcade afterwards – along with Vinny Segretario of Wingtips/Autonomy and maybe a couple more!

We brought Ricky B, the architect of New Orleans bounce music, up to Chicago for a Saturday afternoon performance. Rick loved the freak snowstorm we had but it did impact the turnout. Lowdown Brass Band still made it out to join Ricky B for a special set.

Nobody really knew what hit them. We had booked a show for The Evens to play in the original store and arcade museum. Little did the hundreds in attendance realize it was our last day at 2410 W Fullerton Ave, moving down the block to our current location at 2532 W Fullerton Ave. As folks filtered out for the evening we were papering up the windows and getting ready to move our collection(s) down the street to make way for Logan Arcade, the true gamer’s paradise!
